How big is the lawn at the house?

If you have a large plot of land on which to build your house, you can develop the rest as you wish. How much area should be reserved for lawn?
Surrounding your home with a lawn is a great alternative to flower gardens or vegetable patches. Grass prevents the area from feeling crowded, which helps avoid a cluttered look and reduces the burden of maintaining the property. However, let's assume you have a large plot of land or are just deciding to buy land. Is it better to opt for a large lawn around the house or a small green space?

Large lawn - advantages and disadvantages

A small lawn is generally considered to be up to 150 square meters, a medium lawn up to approximately 1 square kilometer, and a large lawn even larger. Few Polish residential plots have large lawns; they are most often found on property belonging to companies or institutions. A medium lawn is the most viable option, but consider whether you really need one.
A large lawn is an excellent "buffer space" separating the house from the hustle and bustle of the street. It's a great place to play football with the kids or have picnics. What's more, such a lawn naturally humidifies the air and creates a particularly pleasant atmosphere around the house. But having a larger lawn isn't just a pleasure. It also brings with it responsibilities.
The larger the lawn, the more time and resources you'll need to devote to seeding, mowing, watering, raking, fertilizing, and aerating. At the same time, the more you neglect these tasks, the more noticeable an unsightly, dry, or overgrown lawn will be. So, be careful what you plan.

Lawn care costs

When planning your lawn, consider the cost of maintaining it. It's not just about buying seeds and water, but also about gardening tools.
The main tool you need in your garage is, of course, a lawnmower. The NAC electric lawnmower is the perfect mower for a small to medium-sized lawn. A manual lawnmower or petrol brushcutter is suitable for small lawns, while the perfect mower for a large lawn is a petrol mower with a cutting width of 56 cm or larger. This value refers to the cutting width. It's not worth buying this type of mower for a lawn smaller than 400 square meters.
The prices of each device vary: electric mowers are, of course, cheaper than petrol mowers, but their cost is also influenced by the presence of additional accessories (e.g., a removable catcher, an adjustable handle). With petrol mowers, you also need to consider the need for refueling. This won't be a huge expense, but you'll definitely feel it if you regularly mow a field larger than a square kilometer. So, wouldn't it be better to buy an electric mower? Not necessarily – its range is dictated by the distance from the power outlet.

Ale lawnmower That's not all. Tools like an aerator or scarifier are also useful for maintaining a large lawn. They make it easier to tidy up the lawn after winter, aerate the soil, and clear it of weeds and leaves. If you're focusing on a small lawn, you can do these tasks by hand, but if you're planning a large one, it would require a lot of effort.

Big or small lawn?

You'll have to find the ultimate answer to this question yourself. When searching for the right answer, consider the criteria above. Consider the lawn's functions, maintenance costs, and the labor required to maintain it. A large lawn means higher costs and more time spent mowing, but it also provides a larger area to isolate you from the road, and a larger space for your children to play or organize family gatherings. So consider this: do you want a large lawn, yet still be willing to work on it and able to afford the necessary maintenance supplies?
