Snow blowers - so that winter isn't so terrible
A container full of snowblowers, imported from the United States to Poland 30 years ago, gave birth to the NAC New American Concept. However, it took several winters before these unknown machines finally found buyers, who realized that the efficiency and speed of even a single machine outperformed a platoon of soldiers furiously swinging snow shovels. Today, snowblowers and sweepers can be found on almost every street, making the fight against winter much more even.
How does a snow blower work?
For modern snow blowers such as NAC STP196L-61-K Even a path or sidewalk completely covered in snow presents no problem. A wide auger collects snow (both freshly fallen and frozen) from the surface and then discharges it through a side nozzle at least several meters away. The engine that powers the device powers the auger and wheels, but—unlike lawn mowers—its operation is controlled by a gearbox with several forward gears and one reverse gear. This makes maneuvering the machine, which weighs over 50 kg, child's play, and holding it in your hands feels like you're at the helm of an icebreaker.
The challenging operating conditions forced the designers to create a highly durable structure, prepared for numerous terrain obstacles. Height-adjustable side skids ensure the propeller spins at a safe distance from the ground, preventing it from catching on pavement, for example. The wheels boast treads fit for a rally off-roader.
Practical solutions have also been considered – the rotating discharge nozzle allows snow to always be thrown in the same direction, even when changing direction. The most powerful snow blowers boast a throw distance of several meters. Starting the engine doesn't require removing gloves, which is a huge convenience when working in freezing temperatures.
Sweeper instead of snow blower?
An alternative to snow blowers are sweepers like the NAC SWP80-196L-KC, which, instead of an auger, use a motor-driven, height-adjustable brush that reaches a high rotational speed (300 rpm). The stiff, rotating bristles are excellent not only for removing fresh snow but also for clearing sand and dirt from sidewalks. The working width (80 cm) makes work fast, especially since the sweeper can reach speeds of up to 5 km/h. It is controlled by a gearbox with 5 forward and 2 reverse speeds.
These days, versatility and a willingness to take on new challenges are valued by workers. This is no exception with a classic sweeper – adding a blade allows you to instantly transform it into an efficient plow that quickly clears snow from sidewalks, roads, or maneuvering areas. The device can also be equipped with an optional container to collect the swept debris.
