It's important to remember that lawn care is essential even in autumn. Mowing is essential until the grass stops growing – even until November in a warm, mild autumn.
It's also important to thoroughly clean the lawn of fallen leaves. Leaves lying on the grass, while beautiful and colorful, can rot when exposed to moisture, ultimately ruining your lawn. The collected leaves can be used, for example, to make compost, which will fertilize your garden soil in spring.
What to do with leaves in the garden?
In order to speed up the composting process (which, if left to itself, can take up to a year), you can shred the leaves using branch shredderbefore placing them in the composter. It's also important to remember to provide water to the composter during dry periods and to protect the compost in winter—for example, by covering it with straw. You can also sprinkle quicklime over the subsequent layers of shredded leaves.
The composting process will not be harmed by introducing earthworms into the composter or adding manure to the leaves.
